Nets turn the tables on Kings

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Nets struck a blow for the Eastern Conference on Tuesday night by embarrassing the best in the West.

Rodney Rogers hit his first six shots and the Nets showed the Sacramento Kings a thing or two on offense and defense in a 94-77 victory.

New Jersey ended its three-game losing streak against the Kings and went a long way toward avenging a 105-92 loss in Sacramento on Nov. 30, a game in which the Kings led 60-28 at the half.

This time, the Nets dominated in leading by as many as 30 points.

The Kings arrived late at the Continental Airlines Arena from New York City because of traffic problems caused by a mid March snowstorm, then lost to an East team for the fourth time in 25 games.

KNICKS 114, WIZARDS 110 (OT): Tim Thomas scored 32 and Stephon Marbury had 16 points and 14 assists as host New York won its first overtime game in six tries.

The Knicks got the chance only because Nazr Mohammed tipped in a shot to tie the score at 96 at the end of regulation.

Jerry Stackhouse was not in the Wizards' starting lineup two weeks after he angered the team by declaring he was finished for the season. A team spokeswoman said the move was a coach's decision, and Stackhouse entered at the start of the second quarter.

HEAT 96, HORNETS 83: Dwyane Wade scored 23 and Miami never trailed, outscoring Charlotte 18-11 in the final 9:17 to win its sixth straight home game.

Hornets forward Jamal Mashburn went on the injured list with a swollen right knee, and forward P.J. Brown will miss two games with a sprained left ankle.

GRIZZLIES 82, 76ERS 79: Pau Gasol had 22 points and James Posey scored the final four, including a go-ahead layup with 15 seconds left, as host Memphis erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit.

Philadelphia forward Glenn Robinson will miss at least two weeks after arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

CAVS 111, BULLS 87: Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 24 points and 17 rebounds and host Cleveland won its seventh straight, its longest winning streak since 1997.

SONICS 118, HAWKS 110: Brent Barry scored a season-high 28 and Ray Allen 27, and visiting Seattle won its second straight for the first time in 24 games.

BLAZERS 100, BUCKS 99: Damon Stoudamire made a fallaway jumper with a second left to lift visiting Portland to its fourth straight.

CLIPPERS 110, SUNS 98: Quentin Richardson had 32 points and 12 rebounds and visiting Los Angeles snapped a four-game losing streak.

WILLIAMS TRIAL: The shotgun Jayson Williams used in the death of his limo driver will not fire unless someone pulls its trigger, a New Jersey state police ballistics expert testified in Somerville, N.J.

Detective Sgt. James Ryan told the jury at Williams' manslaughter trial that the 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun that discharged into driver Costas "Gus" Christofi's chest early Feb.14, 2002, did not malfunction during a series of eight tests.

The testimony appeared to rip a hole in the defense claim that the Browning shotgun was prone to malfunctions.
