Bucs impresssions

By Times Staff Writer
Published March 18, 2004

Coach Jon Gruden on what he wants in the new facility:

"I just wanted a little space where I could hang up some of my clothes instead of laying them on the floor."

* * *

Defensive tackle Anthony McFarland on looking ahead:

"Hopefully I'll still be in the league when we get the new facility. ... I'll be happy when this old place is demolished."

* * *

Bruce Allen on the possibility of a covered practice field considering the Bucs have to practice in a nearby garage during storms:

"(Gruden) sort of likes the garage. He runs secret plays. It's called the Chevy-to-the-right play. It's something, depending on what we build, and the structure of it, (that) we're looking into."

* * *

Receiver Joe Jurevicius on the difference between One Buc Place and the planned facility:

"This is a place where we come to work and a place we call home. There are some funny things about this place and things I would like to forget. ... The woodshed has been good to us, I can't lie. ... But when it's time to go, we'll be some pretty happy guys."

* * *

Senior director of business administration Mike Newquist on naming rights for the new complex:

"That's very possible. You've seen, with most of the other facilities that go up, they try to find a corporate partner and, yes, that is something that we will look into as well."

* * *

Personnel executive Doug Williams on the new complex:

"When I was here, it was between the years of 1978 and 1982, this (current) facility wasn't bad. ... When I came back here this year I realized that Atlanta had built two since then. It kind of told me about how far behind we were. What I think this building does for us is not only catches us up with the rest of the league, but also puts us way out front for years to come."

* * *

Gruden on whether the team will lose some of its toughness and closeness associated with One Buc Place:

"That (woodshed) speech is getting a little old. "Hey guys, it will bring us closer together. You're going to eat next to each other. You're going to sleep next to each other.' We don't want that, Coach. We want a new facility."
