You weren't really serious about that Atkins diet, were you? Not when our food and wine tasting events are firing up. The action starts this weekend on both sides of the bay. The St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society opens on Friday, featuring all kinds of ethnic savories. Saturday evening, the Best of Tampa Bay event at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (shown above) showcases fare from local restaurants and caterers.

More dates to watch: March 27: Abilities Wine Tasting, St. Petersburg; April 15-18: Florida Winefest, Sarasota; April 16-19: Bern's Winefest, Tampa; May 27, Taste of the Nation, Tampa; June 4-6: Taste of Pinellas, St. Petersburg.

If you missed Food Critic Chris Sherman's tips for taking in such events in Wednesday's Taste section, you'll see them at www.sptimes.com

The carb-cutting will just have to wait.
