World War II salute

Take a stroll back in time at the World War II Salute from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Village, 11909 125th St. N, Largo. Axis and Allied re-enactors will be on hand with authentic restored military vehicles, displays of memorabilia and uniforms. See the USO Revue by Bonnie Gray Productions or kick up your heels with swing dancers from Savoy South Dance Hall. Donate blood or bring nonperishable foods to support the food drive for local charities. Stop by the victory garden to see how residents grew their own food to supplement their food rations. CONCERT: The Florida Orchestra will perform Toch: Pinocchio, "A Merry Overture;" Beethoven: Konzerstatz for Violin and Chamber Orchestra; Korngold: Concerto for Violin; Beethoven: Symphony No. 4. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. Conducted by Stefan Sanderling, it features Pip Clarke on the violin. Tickets are $21-$45.

OPERA: A womanizing duke who sings the famous words "La Donna Imobile" becomes the target of a tragic protagonist, Rigoletto, a court jester with a curse. Rigoletto, Verdi's colorful satire of political excess and perilous vengeance is an opera staple. Presented by Teatro Lirico D'Europa, it starts at 8 p.m. tonight at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. Tickets are $35-$45. Gain insight into the production during a lecture hosted by artists, directors, technicians and educators at 7 p.m. Admission is $3.50. SOUL JAM: Step back in time to the '70s with a concert by the Stylistics, the Chi-Lites, the Delfonics, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes at 8 p.m. Saturday at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. ART, WINE AND MUSIC: The monthly 3rd Friday celebration in downtown Safety Harbor continues tonight with shopping, dining and entertainment throughout the area. There will be music at the Gazebo from 7 to 10 p.m. by Easy Street playing '40s swing and jazz, popular American classics and some bluegrass, and local artists will be displaying their works at participating businesses. CONCERT: The Clearwater Community Concert Band plays a free show at 3 p.m. March 20 at St. Petersburg College, Clearwater campus, at Drew Street and Old Coachman Road. Prior to the main act, a wind quintet performs at 1:45 p.m. and the jazz band at 2:15 p.m. Admission is free.

BALLET: West Florida Ballet presents two shows, Peter and the Wolf and Spring Fling, Saturday at the Largo Cultural Center. Showtimes for Peter and the Wolf are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7.50 general, $24 for a family four pack. Showtime for Spring Fling is 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15.50 general, $13.50 for groups of 10 or more and $12 for students. BEAD FESTIVAL: Thirty-four vendors from 10 states will be selling vintage and modern handmade beads at the Florida Spring Classic Intergalactic Bead Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Minnreg Center, 6340 126th Ave., Largo. ART SHOW: Syd Entel Galleries is presenting "Pablo Picasso: The Printmaker," a collection of original limited-edition aquatints, etchings and lithographs through April 8. The artist produced more than 2,500 images in various media from 1899 to 1972. The hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
