TAMPA - Tampa police are seeking help in solving a string of burglaries that has plagued South Tampa and Davis Islands in recent weeks.

Since early February, more than 20 homes have been burglarized, according to reports. In most cases, the burglars kicked in the side doors of the homes and stole items such as jewelry, televisions, VCRs and computer hardware.

Witnesses in the area have reported seeing a suspicious green or dark green Honda Accord and a silver 1998 Ford Taurus. They also described the possible suspects as two or three black men, ages 18 to 21.

One is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 190 pounds with an afro haircut and muscular build. He was last seen wearing a dark blue coat, white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call the police department's District 1 office at (813) 247-0600.
