ST. PETERSBURG - Traffic patterns will change on Second Street S and Second Avenue once construction on McNulty Lofts is in full swing. It begins in April.
The 85-unit condominium project is being built on top of the McNulty Garage. Parts of the staging area will be lanes of the surrounding roads. Floors in the garage will be used to store equipment.
Beginning at Central Avenue, Second Street - which runs one way south - will narrow to two lanes to give the crane room to sit next to the garage. Jersey barriers will nudge traffic out of the lanes, with signs warning, "lane ends, merge left." A sign at First Avenue N and Second Street alerts drivers to the upcoming merger.
Traveling on Second Avenue S between First and Second streets, motorists will merge left again in about the middle of the block so the right lane of Second Avenue can be used as a staging area.
