Haag captures singles championship

Rian Haag rolled a 288-873 to win the handicap singles title as the St.Petersburg Women's Association ended its 61st city tournament last Sunday at Southland Lanes.

Haag added 207 handicap pins to games of 177 and 201. Edna Berry was second with a 795 series, and Sarah Hutchins fired a 786 for third.

Sears Hair Salon held its first-weekend lead to capture the handicap crown with a 3,768 pinfall. Team members and their series were Dottie DeMoully (501), Lois Coots (468), Misty Drasher (492), Mary Maddox (486) and Marge Brock (540).

Misfits finished second at 3,585, and ABC Golf Carts was third at 3,581.

Sue McKay and Susan Black won the handicap doubles with 1,466, including 732 pins. Faith Emmert and Annie Richards were the runnersup at 1,446, and Donna Doyle and Nina Smith were third at 1,435.

Sandra Hilton took the handicap all-events with a 2,249 pinfall. Following were Haag (2,246) and McKay (2,239).

A squad anchored by Cindy Hall's 687 series won the team scratch title with a 3,164 pinfall. Jennifer Peacock produced a 610, Lisa Beck 593, Christy Scanga 646 and Kristin Salerno 628.

Beck and Hall won the scratch doubles with 1,307, Peacock claimed the singles with a 709 scratch series, and Hall topped the all-events with a 1,940 pinfall. Patricia McKee recorded a 288-727.

CLEARWATER TOURNEY: Danielle Kennard was a triple winner and several other players notched double victories as the Clearwater Women's Association City Tournament wrapped up last Sunday at AMF Clearwater Lanes.

Kennard and Blythe Zeigler won the Division 2 doubles with a 1,467 total. Kennard captured the singles with a 772 series and posted the all-events victory with a total pinfall of 2,182.

Kathy Weaver's Up Your Average won the Division 1 title with 2,613, and she teamed with Sharon Steinbarger to grab the doubles at 1,198.

Judy Howarth and Tammie Jungling topped the Division 3 doubles with 1,377, and Howarth won the singles with a 783 series.

Laura Mosley-May was the Division 1 singles winner with a 701 series, and she took the all-events with a 2,050 pinfall.

Up Your Average included Anne McDonald, Judy Walton and Barbara Hendricks. Mary's Gang - Betty Blockus, Carol Weaver, Alma Cowing and Mary Lazar - was the Division 2 winner at 2,700.

Lorraine's Team - Mary Anne Jaquinto, Inez Hammer, Mary Quintilini and Lorraine Butler - finished atop Division 3 at 2,638.

SIGNS BOUNCED: Team USA Support No.2, Sioux Falls, S.D., took the Regular Division lead with a 3,075 pinfall, displacing Sign Producers of Winter Garden in the ABC Championships Tournament in Reno, Nev.

Sign Producers, a regular entry in the ABCb.line World Team Challenge stop at Seminole Lanes, had led the past two weeks with a 3,062 pinfall. Team USA included Jeremy Sonnenfeld, among seven men with a perfect 900 series.

Mike Vasey and Joseph Crocco Jr., Racine, Wis., are the new doubles leaders at 1,477. Mark Wolff, Ballwin, Mo., is the singles frontrunner with a 793 series.

Connections No.3 heads the Classified teams with 2,775. Bill Cherry, Calhoon, Ga., is atop the singles with a 656 series. Larry Harrington, Whitehall, Mont., and Kent Smallcomb, Kearney, Neb., head the doubles with a 1,245 total.
