Voice of experience to help city

TREASURE ISLAND - The mayor who helped oversee the redevelopment of West Palm Beach is coming here Monday to offer some tips.

Nancy Graham, now director of West Palm Beach's redevelopment authority, and Mary Ruffin Hanbury, from the National Trust for Historic Preservation's South Carolina office, were invited by Treasure Island Mayor Mary Maloof and the city's business community to discuss downtown redevelopment and historic preservation.

"We have been contacted by so many people concerned with the demolition of our "retro' properties ... perhaps historic preservation is the answer," Maloof said Friday. "Ms. Hanbury will have all the facts and will be able to let people know what could work for those who are interested in preservation for their properties."

The community seminar is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Treasure Island Community Center, One Park Place. The event is free and open to the public.

"I thought these speakers would dovetail nicely with the Downtown Master Traffic Plan and the fact that next year is our 50th anniversary," Maloof said.
