Tampa Electric plans to install 95-foot poles, starting at a substation in Lutz.

TAMPA PALMS - A brief overview of a project along a 200-foot-wide corridor has been posted on Tampa Electric's Web site.

Tampa Electric, a subsidiary of TECO Energy Inc., owns the corridor and plans to begin installing 95-foot poles this year.

The Web site was created after the Tampa Palms Community Development District voted March 10 to send a notice to homeowners in Areas 1 and 2 urging them to attend a March 30 community information workshop about the project.

Homes in the Wellington, Cambridge I, II and III, Wyndham, Stonington, Enclave, Tremont, and Estates of River Park villages abut the corridor.

The project is part of the utility's 10-year plan. Each year, the Florida Public Service Commission requires utilities to submit such a plan to help them assess future needs.

"The delivery of reliable, affordable electricity to our customers requires that Tampa Electric regularly maintain and, as required, add to our transmission and distribution system," the Web site says. "With growth in our area at more than 2 percent annually - more than double that in areas like Tampa Palms - this is something we must continually monitor and address."

The first phase of the project will begin this year at the Chapman substation in Lutz, 16933 N Livingston Ave., and will extend to the Tampa Palms substation, 16199 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. The second phase, from the Tampa Palms substation to the River substation, 9514 Woodland Ridge Road, will begin in 2005.

The last phase has a 2007 construction schedule.
