CLEARWATER - The bodies of a Clearwater couple shot and killed in the living room of their apartment were found Saturday afternoon by a relative investigating why they hadn't been answering their phone.

Clearwater police identified the couple as George Lee Dixon, 29, and his girlfriend, Ruth Brooks, 23, who were found about 3 p.m. in the apartment they shared at 1890 Betty Lane N.

By late Saturday, Clearwater police detectives were still investigating and did not release any information about the killings.

Police Lt. George Koder said Dixon's brother, whom he could not identify, visited the apartment after phone calls placed to the couple went unanswered.

"They hadn't been heard from throughout the day," Koder said. "They weren't answering their phone."

Outside the front door, Koder said, the brother heard the couple's 18-month-old baby crying.

He climbed in through a window and found the bodies. The child was unharmed and is staying with relatives, Koder said.

A crowd gathered outside the apartment as forensics crews gathered evidence. Not long after the bodies were found, Dixon's brother, clearly distraught, was checked by paramedics before relatives led him away.
