EAST LAKE - A 25-year-old Palm Harbor man was killed Saturday when his vehicle crashed into the median on Woodlands Parkway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Simon M. Benkovic, 2245 Toniwood Lane, was driving east on Woodlands Parkway at 1 a.m. Saturday when his 2001 Ford F-150 pickup drove into the median and struck a concrete curb, according to FHP investigators.

The truck then sideswiped a tree in the median before it stopped, authorities said.

Benkovic was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead.

The FHP said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
