JUPITER - Marlins centerfielder Juan Pierre dislocated his right pinkie Sunday while sliding headfirst on a steal attempt.

Pierre's return is uncertain. He could come back within a week if the injury is not serious, or he might miss up to six weeks if there's ligament damage.

Pierre, who led the majors last year with 65 stolen bases, is scheduled to see a hand specialist today.

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria said his heart skipped "five beats" when he saw Pierre get hurt.

"I guarantee you he'll be in the opening-day lineup," Loria said, "even if he has to bunt four times."
