Xpress, the Coolest Section of the St. Petersburg Times, is the home for features, news and views of interest to young readers. Most of the work in Xpress, which appears on Mondays in Floridian, is produced by the Times' X-Team. The current team of 12 was chosen out of 150 applicants. Watch for X-Team application forms in Xpress during the month of May.

Ask me anything

By BRIAN ORLOFF
Published March 22, 2004

Online quizzes are not a new fad, but lately there seems to be a glut of crazy quizzes for anybody willing to answer. One such quiz asks if you have commander-in-chief aspirations. If you do, click over to www.channelone.com an online teen news Web site and take the Are You Presidential Material quiz. You've gotta hunt for it: Look for the One Vote 2004 icon on the home page and then, under the student exchange header, you'll find the quiz. You must select one of three responses to each question, and then the site determines if you should be running the country or looking for a different way to spend your time.

An active verb

Remember last summer, when officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention asked you to choose your favorite verb and act it out? No? Well, here's a gentle reminder to do it and get moving. The campaign, set to battle youth obesity, challenges tweens (ages 9 to 13) to find physical activities they enjoy, to begin incorporating them into their daily lives and to set healthy, lifelong exercise patterns. But you really don't need a reminder, according to organization officials. Apparently, tweens have been receptive to the program. So, keep up the good work and get moving!

All that glitters is your nails

The sun is finally out, you're breaking out the flip-flops and strappy sandals, and the world seems finally to be coming out of its wintry shell. Surely a plain pedicure doesn't do justice to the gloriousness of spring. Maybe a few crystals will spice things up. That's the theory behind Crystalicious, a new line of nail kits that let you create sparkly manicures and pedicures perfect for spring. A Crystalicious kit contains a high-gloss top coat, 50 Swarovski crystals in a glass vial and three manicure sticks. It's up to you to do all 20 nails without spilling any polish on the bedspread. Buy a kit for $16.50 only at www.crystalicious.com

X-Press Quote

"I love jokes, but I forget them the minute I hear them. The ones I do remember I love telling. I'm a sucker for humor."

- Actor Drew Barrymore telling Seventeen magazine what makes her chuckle.
