PLANT CITY - A 3-year-old girl was critically injured in a car crash on Interstate 4 Tuesday morning.

Alexia Coronado was a passenger in a 2002 Chevrolet driven by Fernando E. Infante of Sarasota. Infante, 45, was driving east on I-4 just east of MacIntosh Road about 9:15 a.m. when he appears to have lost control of the car and veered across the median into westbound traffic, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Danielle Berlusx, 25, driving a 1992 Honda, swerved to avoid the Chevrolet but hit the driver's side door.

Infante, Alexia and passengers Sofia Coronado, 20, and Estella Acosta, 50, were taken to Tampa General Hospital. Alexia was in critical condition Tuesday evening. A TGH spokeswoman said she had no information on the condition of the others.

Berlusx and a 1-year-old passenger, Gabriel R. Ballantyne, were taken to Brandon Regional Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said both were being treated in the emergency room Tuesday evening.
