HOLIDAY - Authorities say a medical assistant at Gulfview Walk-In Clinic stole nearly $2,000 by accepting cash from patients, then covering up records of their visits. A doctor discovered the scheme after seeing the patients were treated but no money was collected, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
The scheme occurred between April 2003 and February 2004, authorities say.
Bonnie J. Mossey, 4747 Drift Tide Drive, New Port Richey, was arrested Tuesday by Pasco sheriff's deputies. She was released from county jail on $5,000 bail.
Mossey, according to an arrest report, admitted to the doctor she took the money and a deputy contacted several patients who confirmed they paid for visits. In an interview with deputies, however, Mossey said all she took was $60 from a patient and falsified computer records to cover it up. She said she needed money for groceries because her husband was in jail.
