You'll forgive these basenjis for staring. They are, after all, a hound breed, and therefore it is their job to find things. Perhaps the weekend will find you at the St. Petersburg Dog Fanciers Competition, our own little corner of Westminster. More than 100 breeds of AKC-registered dogs are slated to compete, and there will be plenty of shopping opportunities for the canine in your life. The action starts at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with best-in-show awards about 5 p.m. both days, at the Times Arena at Bayfront Center, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. $3 adult, $1 seniors and youths under age 12. 727 781-8448; or
