Hot ticket: Parade will light up the night Monday

By Times Staff
Published April 1, 2004

The Festival of States Illuminated Night Parade, one of the highlights of the annual civic festival, moves to a new night this year to avoid a conflict with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays home opener. The parade and the Harvey's 4th Street Grill 5K run will be on Monday instead of the traditional Tuesday.

Registration for the 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk along the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront begins at 5 p.m. Monday at the north end of Straub Park. The 1-mile event starts at 6:15 and the 5K at 6:30. Entry is 18 for the 5K, $15 for the 1-mile fun run/walk.

The parade, featuring All Children's Hospital's Clown Alley, above, steps off at 8 p.m. and runs between Vinoy Park and the Bayfront Center. Fireworks follow.

The parade is free, although reserved bleacher seats are available for $6. Call 727 898-3654 or go to www.festivalofstates.com for more information.
