1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Another mind-bender from screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation), this one starring Jim Carrey as a jilted lover having romance wiped from his memory.

2. Dawn of the Dead - Any remake surpassing the original is rare, but this update of George A. Romero's 1978 film does it with more gore, humor and economy of storytelling.

3. The Ladykillers - Tom Hanks chews the Southern-fried scenery in a remake of a classic British comedy.

4. Jersey Girl - Filmmaker Kevin Smith grows up a little with this sentimental comeback for Ben Affleck.

5. Home on the Range - Not one of Disney's finest animation efforts, but it's a better choice of family entertainment than Scooby Doo Deux.
