Highland Games

Want to do something a little different this weekend? Plan on attending the Highland Games in Dunedin beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Highlander Park at Michigan Boulevard and Pinehurst Road in Dunedin. The games highlight the centuries-old athletic events of Scotland, including the caber toss and hammer throw, and will feature demonstrations by Daniel Phillips and his herd-trained border collies. There is also Scottish dancing, piping and drumming competitions, as well as a gathering of more than 50 Scottish clans. You can sample Scottish food and try to trace your own Scottish heritage. Athletic events start at noon. Admission is free. The $10-per-car parking fee includes an event program and two raffle tickets. For information, call (727) 733-6240.

Musical

Konstantinos Maris, winner of the 2004 Florida Folk Heritage Award, will be recognized during a special performance of Zorba at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center, 324 Pine St. Admission is $16 general, $14 for center members and students. Zorba, is presented by the Theatre Department of the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center. Other shows take place at 8 tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday. For information, call (727) 942-5605.

FIRST FRIDAY: See original works by 15 artists from 6:30 to 9 tonight at Imago Art Group @ Trailside, 464 Douglas Ave., Dunedin. Featured in the Main Gallery will be a show called "West Goes East" by Elaine Schilp, who mixes modern and traditional art with an Asian flair. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. BRASS QUINTET: The Glorious Brass will perform at 7 tonight at the Dunedin Public Library, 223 Douglas Ave. The quintet led by trombonist David Manson will play swing, classical, Broadway and pop music. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Call (727) 733-8805.

DIXIELAND JAZZ: The Suncoast Dixieland Jazz Society presents the New Reformation Jazz Band from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Sugar Creek Mobile Home Park recreation center, 10265 Ulmerton Road, Largo (just east of Seminole Boulevard). CHILDREN'S EVENT: The cast of Hi-5, a live-action musical cable TV series, will greet preschool fans and do shows at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. today at Westfield Shoppingtown Countryside, 27001 U.S. 19 N, Clearwater. Admission is free.

WALK-A-THON: Practice your sign language skills at a 5K "silent" walk-a-thon and deaf festival at 9 a.m. Saturday at Taylor Park in Largo. Walkers pay a $25 donation or $25 in sponsorships. Participants receive a T-shirt and goody bag. For information, call (727) 399-9983.
