FORT PIERCE - Six citrus grove workers were killed Thursday when a van carrying 19 people rolled over four times on Interstate 95, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The other 13 were injured, some critically, and were taken to five area hospitals, Lt. Tim Frith said.
They were in a 2001 Ford cargo van that witnesses said swerved in its lane, crossed into the grassy median and rolled over four times, Frith said.
The accident happened at State Road 68, or Florida Cracker Trail, just west of Fort Pierce, said Mark Weinberg, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
About eight miles of the interstate was closed in the aftermath.
Frith said the men worked for the Circle H Citrus Co. and had left an orange grove in Sebastian, 27 miles north of Fort Pierce.
