Islands council elects new officers

Belleair Beach Mayor Mike Kelly will head the beach towns group known as the Big-C that focuses on common concerns.

REDINGTON BEACH - The Barrier Islands Governmental Council elected a new slate of officers Wednesday. Belleair Beach Mayor Mike Kelly will replace Redington Shores Mayor J.J. Beyrouti as president. Madeira Beach Mayor Tom DeCesare will be the group's new vice president. Bob Fountaine, mayor of Redington Beach, will be the group's secretary and treasurer.

Officers serve two-year terms on the Big-C.

The Big-C is composed of elected officials from each of the 10 small municipalities on the barrier islands.

During its February meeting, the group amended its bylaws to include Clearwater on its board.

The council focuses on issues such as tourism, public transportation, beach preservation, renourishment and redevelopment.
