Changes in store for Vick

By wire services
Published April 4, 2004

ATLANTA - Two weeks into the Falcons' offseason program, they're hitting both weights and books. Nobody is studying more than Michael Vick.

Vick may have the strongest arm in the league, so it's tempting to wonder whether coordinator Greg Knapp's version of the West Coast offense will suit him. It is built less on throwing deep. So will it fit Vick?

"It's perfect for Mike," coach Jim Mora Jr. said. "The version that we run requires a mobile quarterback who has accuracy on the run. Mike has great mobility and tremendous accuracy."

Having rushed for 777 yards in 2002 - third most in NFL history for a quarterback - it's clear Vick can do a thing or two when he leaves the pocket. Even so, Mora would like to see more throws.

"Being a quarterback, you're kind of fighting (the temptation to run)," Vick said. "But I think within this offense, everything is quick. That will allow me to get the ball out of my hand."

BEARS: Defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, seeking a deal in the range of $50-million, will have to look elsewhere, the Daily Southtown reported. "They're players we would love to get, but their situations are such that it's going to be very hard to do," GM Jerry Angelo said. "I don't anticipate us doing anything in that area."

BROWNS: The Ravens improved their offer for receiver Dennis Northcutt, president Carmen Policy told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. But he said it's still against his better judgment, even if it means a fourth-round pick. "If they offered us a No. 2, I would still be against (it). It's Football 101 that you don't trade with teams you're competing against."
