Mobile home blazes up as residents wash cars

MOON LAKE - Fire destroyed a double-wide mobile home Sunday afternoon while the residents were outside washing their cars.

Richard Kiran and Diane Cyr of 10134 Waddell St. and their two dogs were unhurt. But one Pasco County firefighter was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

Battalion Chief Greg Gude did not release the firefighter's name or the nature of his injuries, but he said they were not life-threatening.

"I'm sure he's going to be okay," Gude said.

The 911 call for the fire came shortly before noon, and firefighters had it contained within an hour. The mobile home was a total loss.

Several spot fires were sparked in the woods around the house, all of which were put out quickly, Gude said.

Kiran and Cyr told Pasco sheriff's deputies that they think they might have left a toaster on in the house, said Deputy Robert MacFarlane.
