Times Pinellas baseball super seven

1. (1) SEMINOLE (13-3): The Warhawks stumbled against St. Petersburg, but we're leaving them right here for two reasons: 1. Nobody behind the Warhawks are tearing it up except for the Green Devils; 2. As tempting as it is, the Green Devils can't make the leap from No. 7 to No. 1. But now that they're No. 3, hmmmmm...

2. (2) CCC (11-5): A shocking loss to St. Petersburg Catholic was followed by an impressive 10-2 win over Northside Christian. Even after following that with a 17-0 win over Gibbs, we're still wondering where the CCC offense is hiding.

3. (7) ST. PETERSBURG (10-5): We joked last week that five teams were tied for No. 7 because no one had stepped up. Well, hello Aaron Tullo! The sophomore pitched the Green Devils past Seminole, and now with five straight wins they are looking like a team that returned every player.

4. (5) DUNEDIN (12-5): Shhhh. The sleeping giant is stirring. Since a disappointing showing early at their holiday tournament, the Falcons have won six straight. Is that for real? We find out when they take on East Lake tonight.

5. (3) EAST LAKE (10-6): The Eagles held their own against Seminole before falling this week, which just proves what we've been saying - there's not much of a difference between No. 1 and No. 7 in Pinellas County this season. In the case of the Eagles, it was one run.

6. (4) NORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN (12-5): Six guys in the lineup are hitting .350, two guys have four homers, the county's stolen base leader tops the lineup, and the pitching is solid. That'll be enough to win a district they currently lead with a 6-1 record, but about that 6-4 non-district record...

7. (6) TARPON SPRINGS (12-4): Tonight, the Spongers will decide if they are ready for that upper echelon, or need a little more time floating around below it. Ridgewood is one of the North Suncoast's best programs, and the Spongers could pull into first-place in its all-Pasco district.
