HOLIDAY - The county has negotiated a $3.7-million proposal to buy Forest Hills Utilities, a system that serves about 2,300 homes in the Forest Hills community near U.S. 19 and Mile Stretch Road.

If the County Commission decides Wednesday to pursue the purchase, it would schedule a May 11 public hearing to vote on the buyout. County utilities director Bruce Kennedy said the goal is to keep the current rates while bringing the system into public ownership, making the County Commission responsible for the quality of service to those customers.
