Jobsite back at work

Tampa's Jobsite Theater will open its sixth season with the Halloween-themed Playing with Fire: After Frankenstein by Barbara Field on Oct. 28 through Nov. 14. Also on the agenda for 2004-05 are The Complete Story of America (Abridged) by Adam Long, Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor, Jan. 7 through 23; The Boys Next Door by Tom Griffin, Feb. 17 through March 6; Machinal by Sophie Treadwell, June 2 through 19; and The March of the Kitefliers by Neil Gobioff and Shawn Paonessa. Symphonies in Sarasota

Van Wezel Hall in Sarasota will present seven touring symphony orchestras in its 2004-05 season: the St. Petersburg (Russia) Philharmonic Orchestra on Oct. 31; the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra on Jan. 12; the Prague Symphony Orchestra on Jan. 17; the Minnesota Orchestra on Feb. 18; the Orchestre National de France on March 5; the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on March 12; and the Kirov Orchestra on March 30. Opera League winners

Kim Barreto, a soprano from Miami, was awarded first prize in the Pinellas Opera League's seventh annual vocal competition. Barreto, 27, who performed an aria from Wagner's Die Walkure, won $1,500 in the competition that drew 21 singers to Clearwater's First Christian Church in March. Second place went to Scott R. Macleod, a baritone from Tallahassee. Isaac Hurtado, a tenor from Tallahassee, finished third.
