Council elects Harrison to be chairman pro tem

TAMPA - Five years ago, he became the first person from New Tampa elected to the Tampa City Council.

Thursday, he was elevated to the council's No. 2 post.

Shawn Harrison, who represents North Tampa, New Tampa and part of Seminole Heights, was elected chairman pro tem. Council members Rose Ferlita and Kevin White nominated Harrison, first elected to the council in 1999 and re-elected in March 2003.

Harrison replaces Gwen Miller, who was named council chairwoman.
