One-on-one with Andrew Reed

Published April 11, 2004

Andrew Reed was getting ready for Ridgewood's prom when we caught up with him recently for our player of the year feature. He opted for the black tux - none of that powder blue nonsense - but showed up for our interview wearing a gray Jason Kidd jersey. Staff writer Greg Auman got his take on the NBA, the colleges and his senior season.

GA: So your future team, East Tennessee State, made the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. The Bucs had fourth-seeded Cincinnati on the ropes, and I know you found a way to watch that game.

AR: It was great. I wish I was on the floor with them.

GA: You get any ETSU gear yet? You can't exactly walk into the mall and find that here.

AR: I don't, but I really want some. I have to call them up. You'd think they can bring me some.

GA: Today, you're wearing Jason Kidd. Is he your guy in the NBA?

AR: Kenyon Martin, actually. He's an all-out hustler. He goes up for the rebound, and he's always in the air, dunking on people.

GA: (With Final Four semis just one day away) So whom did you have winning the NCAAs?

AR: I have UConn winning. (Emeka) Okafor, he's the man.

GA: Is there a player you model yourself after, in college or the pros?

AR: Hakim Warrick, from Syracuse. I want to play the game just like him. He's tall, about my size, and he just goes out and gets it.

GA: So what was your favorite game this season? I'm guessing it was the district championship game against Wesley Chapel.

AR: That felt real good. We were all firing, and when we're all hitting on all the cylinders, we're a good team. Everybody was there that night. Everybody stepped up and played.
