Home lot sizes in Zephyrhills scrutinized at workshop today

ZEPHYRHILLS - Members of City Council and the Planning Commission will meet at 4 p.m. today for a joint workshop to discuss development standards.

City officials are concerned about some developers' plans to build residential neighborhoods where 40-foot-wide lots and narrow corridors between houses are the norm.

Zephyrhills' current conventional zoning requires a minimum of 60-foot-wide lots with 10-foot setbacks for single-family homes. Concessions can be made under other types of zoning where houses are clustered and park space figures into the design of a neighborhood.

With growth, annexations and new development moving rapidly into the city, leaders want to establish policies that will prevent sprawl and ensure compatibility with the city's character.

The two boards will meet in council chambers at City Hall, 5335 Eighth St.
