LITHIA - Five construction workers were taken to local hospitals Wednesday after they fell from trusses that collapsed during construction of a retail strip plaza at 4325 Lynx Paw Drive.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. as employees for Hebert Construction put up the trusses.

It's unclear why the trusses fell, said sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter. The men's injuries were not life-threatening.

Bob Pruden, 41, of Riverview, was taken to Brandon Community Hospital by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. Plant City residents Henry Reyes, 22; and Jorge Cabraba, who turned 26 Wednesday, were taken by medical helicopter to Tampa General Hospital. An ambulance transported Javier Reyes, 26, of Plant City, and Alexander Herrara, 18, to Tampa General.
