If you hear the thunder of hooves, the gasps of onlookers and the cheers for those who manage to hang on, you must be somewhere near the Hernando County Fair in Brooksville this weekend, where the Professional Cowboy Association Championship Rodeo will be the star attraction.
More than 300 cowboys and cowgirls are expected to compete in events such as bull riding, bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, women's barrel racing and women's breakaway roping, plus exhibitions in trick riding and roping. Shown here is rodeo entertainer Bill Thorpe and his 2,000-pound Texas longhorn steer, Amarillo Red, at last year's event. See the Get Away calendar for details on the rodeo and the fair.
