The Hernando Symphony Orchestra will close its 2003-04 season with love songs and the winners of the orchestra's annual Young Artist Competition during concerts on Sunday, Tuesday and April 24.
The theme for the concerts is "Classics in Love."
"The audience will be able to sit back and reminisce," said conductor Wayne Raymond.
Among the pieces on the program are The Wedding March by Mendelssohn, When I Fall in Love by Selden, Hello, Dolly! by Jerry Herman and the Skaters' Waltz by Waldteufel.
The featured soloist will be the orchestra's pianist, Sylvia Leaman, who will perform Piano Concerto No. 20 by Mozart.
For the past several years, the orchestra has sponsored its Young Artist Competition. Student musicians are asked to audition for the chance to perform with the orchestra.
This year's winners include Kristie Morrill, a senior at Hernando High School; Jenae Welch, a sophomore at Nature Coast Technical High School, and Jocelyn Bell, a senior at the University of South Florida.
Morrill, an oboist, will perform the first movement of Haydn's Concerto in C minor for Oboe and Orchestra. Welch, who plays french horn, will perform Concerto for Horn by Hermann. Bell, who plays cello, will perform Concerto No. 15 in G minor for Cello and Piano by Vivaldi.
The concerts are at 2 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Springstead Theatre on Mariner Boulevard in Spring Hill, and at 7:30 p.m. April 24 at the Hernando High School Performing Arts Center on Bell Avenue in Brooksville.
