TAMPA - Police on Thursday released composite sketches of a couple who robbed a private day care center Wednesday in Sulphur Springs. One attacker reportedly threatened to kill two young children to force the owner to give him more money.
A man and woman carrying a child about a year old came to the day care asking about its services, Flilda Rivera told police. Then the man produced a pistol and the woman demanded money. Rivera said she gave them $400, but they wanted more, and the man threatened to "start shooting the kids." The pair left after Rivera gave them money she had hidden in the home.
Both robbers were shoeless and both wore latex gloves, police said.
Police describe the man as black, 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 10 and around 200 pounds, with a large Afro haircut and a scar below his right eye. He was wearing a blue plaid long-sleeved shirt, gray pants and white socks and was carrying a chrome pistol.
The woman is described as Hispanic, about 20 years old, 5 feet 7, 180 pounds, with a dark complexion. She was wearing a red shirt, black pants and black socks. She spoke with what is believed to be a Cuban accent and was carrying a child who had a dark complexion and was possibly male.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the police robbery squad at 276-3520, or the Criminal Intelligence Bureau at 276-3653.
