OLDSMAR - After years of aggravation, Gull Aire Village residents are a week from seeing a working traffic signal at the entrance of their community, city officials said Thursday.
Florida Department of Transportation workers have been putting the final touches on the light on Curlew Road near the Woodlands Square Shopping Center this week, said Tim Jacobson, a engineer inspector with the city.
Jacobson said the signal should be operational sometime next week. "It'll be a relief for the homeowners there," Jacobson said. "They've traveled a long ways to get this. And finally, after a lot of work, they're getting their light." The light was originally scheduled to go into operation in December, but construction delays further hampered a project eight years in the making.
City officials, Gull Aire residents, DOT workers and representatives from the shopping complex will dedicate the new light with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. April 27 at Gull Aire Village. For information about the new signal, call Oldsmar's Public Works Department at (813) 749-1136. For information about the ceremony, call the city clerk's office at (813) 749-1115.
