Clearwater coach Tom Shaneyfelt knew his team would be different without Dominique Redding, the Times All-Suncoast Player of the Year the previous two seasons.
Even so, his team ended its season at a familiar destination: the Class 5A state tournament.
The Tornadoes overcame the loss of their departed star and advanced to the state tournament for the seventh time in the past nine seasons.
Shaneyfelt deserves much of that credit.
Left with a team filled with underclassmen who had been Redding's sidekicks for years, Shaneyfelt managed to keep his team among the elite.
"This was a transition year but I still felt we had a lot of talent," Shaneyfelt said. "It was easy in regards to having a great bunch of kids who are hard working and really into the sport."
