Cabinetmaker sentenced to 15 years in DUI death

TAMPA - A cabinetmaker from Land O'Lakes was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday for the DUI manslaughter of a 12-year-old boy.

Hillsborough Circuit Judge Daniel Perry agreed to suspend Michael Shively's sentence after five years, which means Shively will be released at that time and remain free as long as he stays out of trouble.

Shively, 40, pleaded guilty earlier this month. He was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 after his truck struck German Alvarez-Marroquin on April 21, 2003, at U.S. 41 and Lutz-Lake Fern Road. Florida law presumes a driver is impaired at a level of 0.08 or higher.

The boy was walking home from the Lutz library and was obeying traffic signals, authorities said.
