Team pop trivia

By GINA VIVINETTO
Published April 22, 2004

This week's winner: Team Pop managed to pose a question last week with two correct answers, so we decided to give away two T-shirts. Herbert Gersh of Treasure Island knew that Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings performed the song Taxman on the George Harrison tribute, Songs From the Material World, and Tom Crawford of Spring Hill knew that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performed the tune on Concert for George, also released last year.

This week's question: Today is the birthday of the late, great jazz bassist Charles Mingus. Mingus often composed tunes with overtly political titles, including one that referred to a racist Arkansas governor who fought in the 1950s to keep schools segregated. To enter your name in the random drawing for the Weekend T-shirt, name the tune.

Fax entries to Team Pop Trivia, 727 892-2327, e-mail gina@sptimes.com or mail to: Team Pop Trivia, c/o Weekend, St. Petersburg Times, P.O. Box 1121, St. Petersburg, FL 33731. All mailed entries must be postmarked by Friday (the day after we ask the question). Faxes and e-mail must arrive by noon Monday. Include full name, address, phone number and T-shirt size.
