Local educators got a mixed picture of their student's writing abilities today, as another small peek into the results of this year's Florida Comprehensive Test were released.
Statewide, the average writing score for 4th-graders improved .1 point to 3.7; 8th-grader's slid .1 point to 3.8, and 10th grader's held steady at 3.8.
Locally, the picture was mixed as well.
In 4th grade, Citrus and Hernando's scores slipped .1 point, Pinellas and Pasco went up .1 point and Hillsborough remained the same.
In 8th grade, all five counties slipped: Citrus and Pasco by .1 point, Hernando, Pinellas and Hillsborough by .2 points.
In 10th grade, the Citrus and Hillsborough scores stayed the same. Hernando's and Pasco's were up and Pinellas slipped by .1 point.
In the writing test, students are given a prompt - 4th graders, for instance, were told this year to write about someone they liked and why they like them - and are graded on a scale from 1 to 6, with 6 being the best.
For schools, the writing test is another element of the school grades that will be coming out later this year.
