Windows must-have

When I get my biannual new PowerBook, one of the first things I'll move from the old one to the new one will be ObDev's LaunchBar. This utility should be built into the operating system. It puts all of your applications, documents, favorite Web addresses and so forth in a big, easy-to-access list. And now you can do this on Windows with what looks like a carbon copy called AppRocket. The Windows one looks a little cheaper, but they both seem to offer the same functionality.

Nothing better to do

If you've ever known any software and Web usability types, you'll understand that they're obsessive about trying to redesign everything around them. Take this serious-minded redesign of the famous declassified Presidential Daily Briefing. Too much time on one's hands or a moment of visual clarity? You decide.

Better blogs

www.kinja.com/

The problem with blogs is that too many are total rubbish. Perhaps one could be a little more charitable and say they are devoid of content that's relevant to the reader. So what's a compulsive-obsessive, pseudo news junkie to do? Take a peek at a service called Kinja. It's an index on quality blogs and seems to be put together by grownups.

Efficiency rules

Unless you're driving an SUV, efficient design is something that surely touches your very core. Why waste resources when, with a little effort, a comparable model can be found that beats the pants off its less efficient cousins? If you agree, then this site's for you. It's loaded with text and pointers to a better way of living.

I want a baby

www.WhoIsThatWithJeremy.com/

For a short while after seeing this site, I yearned for a baby of my own. No, my biological clock hasn't been wound in years and the ticking noise you hear is only the frequent flier mileage meter. After seeing these photos, I figured that a baby would get you into all kinds of places to which you normally wouldn't have access. And you'd get to hang out with celebs. After discussing with some coworkers, they were pretty sure that this wasn't a good reason to have a baby, so I gave up on the idea.
