Uh, just don't lick them

Waste Services of Florida Inc. is quietly asserting itself as the waste hauler formerly known as BFI in northern and central Florida.

Capital Environmental Resources Inc. of Ontario closed on its $220-million acquisition of BFI operations from Allied Waste Industries Inc. on Dec. 31 and rolled them into its Waste Services of Florida subsidiary.

Waste Services only recently finished rebranding its trucks, although its efforts aren't entirely complete.

According to Kirk Muter, regional vice president of Waste Services, before too long the trucks will be repainted beige and orange to match the colors of another recent acquisition, Florida Recycling Services, which it is purchasing for $128-million in cash and stock.

"They'll look just like giant Creamsicles," Muter said.
