CRYSTAL RIVER - Hernando Christian Academy gained its first region berth with a 6-2 victory against Seven Rivers Christian in the Class A, District 5 game Wednesday at Bicentennial Park.

Hernando Christian (6-8, 3-2) scored early and stayed strong, scoring five runs on three hits and a walk in the second inning.

Seven Rivers coach Bonnie Zeiss changed the lineup after the second inning, moving Erica Deloach from first to third, Katie Amesbury from third to rightfield and Rachael Capra from rightfield to first as the Warriors tried to rally.

Seven Rivers (2-10, 0-5) reined in the Lions but were unable to climb ahead with an Alice Zeiss ground-ball RBI in the fifth and Beth Lindley's scoring walk in the sixth.

With four .300 hitters and Mary Ellen Langley at .467, Hernando Christian won 13-0 and 28-24 against the Warriors earlier this season.

Hernando Christian faces top-seeded Cedar Key in the district championship at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bicentennial Park.
