Ridgewood's Bua throws no-hitter

By GREG AUMAN
Published May 2, 2004

Ridgewood senior Erik Bua, the county's leader with nine wins this season, added another accomplishment with a no-hitter in the Rams' 4-0 win against East Lake on Thursday night.

Bua allowed only two runners; one walked and one reached on an error by first baseman Kevin Johnson on a line drive that bounced off his glove. Bua struck out eight to raise his season total to 69, second behind Zephyrhills' Joe Duffau in the county.

Bua's no-hitter is the second thrown by a county pitcher this season and first to go a full seven innings. Pasco's Mike Onyskin threw a five-inning no-hitter against Wildwood that ended early because of the 10-run mercy rule. The county had two no-hitters last season, with Gulf's Kevin Fagan doing so against Zephyrhills and Pasco's Chris Nyman and Sonny Glover combining for a six-inning no-hitter against the Bulldogs.
