Invader tries to kill 74-year-old woman

A man barged into a home in western Hernando County on Sunday morning and tried to kill a 74-year-old woman as she slept inside, authorities said.

The commotion, which began around 4:20 a.m., jolted the woman's 75-year-old husband from his sleep in another bedroom. But by the time he arrived to check on his wife, the suspect had pushed through a screen door and run away, a sheriff's report said. "The suspect did make an attempt on the life of the female," said sheriff's spokesman Lt. Joseph Paez, who declined to release details.

It was also unclear what the suspect might have stolen from the home in the Glen Lakes subdivision, north of Weeki Wachee. Authorities did not provide a description of the suspect. Anyone with information about Sunday's home invasion robbery is urged to contact the Sheriff's Office at (352) 754-6830 or the anonymous tip line at (352) 797-8477.
