HOUSTON - Ken Griffey left the Reds' game against the Astros on Monday night with stiffness in his right hamstring.

Griffey came out in the third inning after striking out against Roy Oswalt.

Griffey was replaced in the lineup by former Hillsborough High star Jason Romano and is day to day.

The 34-year-old Griffey entered the game hitting .233 with three homers and 14 RBIs.

In other Reds injury news, infielder Ryan Freel (neck) will miss at least two games after getting hurt Sunday against Houston.

ASTROS: Roger Clemens added another honor to one of the most distinguished pitching careers in major-league history: National League pitcher of the month. Clemens has been named AL pitcher of the month 14 times. ... Struggling right-hander Tim Redding will remain in the rotation - for now. Redding is 0-3 with a 10.57 ERA after four starts.

BLUE JAYS: Shortstop Chris Woodward missed his second straight game with a strained right hamstring. Manager Carlos Tosca said Woodward probably will miss two more games.

CUBS: Outfielder Sammy Sosa has 1,998 career strikeouts. He's third on the career list behind Reggie Jackson (2,597) and Andres Galarraga (2,000).

DODGERS: The team will have a new chief operating officer, Martin Greenspun, who is the Yankees' chief financial officer. Greenspun, 41, will assume responsibility for all aspects of Los Angeles' business operations May 17.

MARLINS: Right-handed reliever Chad Fox will be sidelined at least four weeks with an elbow injury. Fox was diagnosed with ulnar neuritis by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., and told to not throw for four weeks.

RANGERS: Owner Tom Hicks said if the team is in a pennant race this summer, the club has the financial resources to add players. But he made it clear that the team, even with a surprisingly fast start, will not make any trades for veterans by giving up young players or prospects.

RED SOX: Vice president of baseball operations Mike Port was in serious condition after a heart attack last weekend. Port, 58, was shopping on Saturday when he felt ill.

ROYALS: Left-hander Jamie Cerda was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and right-hander Eduardo Villacis optioned to Double-A Wichita.

WHITE SOX: First baseman Paul Konerko was given the day off by manager Ozzie Guillen in an effort to let the slumping player clear his mind.
