The last words: Graduation headliners

Most Florida universities just completed their spring graduation exercises, filled with the usual speeches and awarding of honorary degrees.

This year's celebrity invitees were an eclectic bunch, ranging from the vice president of the United States to the former owner of the Atlanta Braves. Below is a partial list:

Florida State University: Vice President Dick Cheney (commencement speaker).

University of South Florida: Retired Gen. Tommy Franks (degree recipient).

Stetson University College of Law: Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist (commencement speaker).

University of Central Florida: Bill Parsons, NASA's manager of the space shuttle. (commencement speaker).

University of Florida: U.S. Sen. John McCain (commencement speaker).

University of West Florida: Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (commencement speaker).

Florida A&M University: Former media mogul and Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner (commencement speaker)

Florida Atlantic University: Richard Lerner, president of Scripps Research Institute (degree recipient).

Florida Gulf Coast University: Thibaut de Saint Phalle, consultant and former director of Export-Import bank (commencement speaker).
