Military news

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Michael Land, husband of Michelle Land of St. Petersburg, recently was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Iraq from March to July 2003. He is an explosive ordnance technician stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. He is a graduate of Gibbs High School.

Army 2nd Lt. Carl P. Estenik, son of Kimmy and Carl Estenik of St. Petersburg, was commissioned after graduating from Infantry Officer Candidate School in Benning, Ga. He will attend the Engineer Officer Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He is a 1989 graduate of Largo High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Richard C. Gross, son of Janet R. and Richard E. Gross of St. Petersburg, recently graduated from the Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn. He is a 1999 graduate of Boca Ciega High School.

Army Sgt. Richard Redmond, brother of Patti Redmond-Marshall of St. Petersburg and Audrey Talbert of Largo, graduated from Primary Leadership Development Course in March. He is assigned to A Company, 701st Military Police Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He is a 1986 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School.
