NEW PORT RICHEY - A grand jury indicted 24-year-old Ricky Lynn Worsham on Monday on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of his fiancee, Lori Kaye Welch.

According to the indictment, Worsham hit Welch, 33, with a baseball bat. Worsham was being held in the Pasco County Jail on a capital sexual battery charge before being formally arrested in Welch's killing.

Welch's three children woke up on the morning of Feb. 1 to find their mother dead in their Osteen Road apartment. The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said Worsham drove Welch's 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis to Inverness, where he abandoned it soon after 5 a.m. on State Road 44.

Authorities lost track of Worsham until late February, when a tip from a homeless man led them to Worsham, who had been living in a Tampa park.
