CLEARWATER - The city's two-day "Out of the Blue" art festival at the Harborview Center was a success and likely will be an annual event, its sponsors said.

"I received a lot of positive feedback from the artists, and they have all said they loved the location, sold work and want to see the show be an annual event," said chairman Susan Rollins-Gehring. "They also provided suggestions that can make this show even better."

Sixty-three artists from around the state participated in the juried show Saturday and Sunday for $10,000 in cash. Judging the work were David Smalley, a sculptor and retired professor of art at Connecticut College; and Jennie Fleming, curatorial assistant of prints, drawing and photographs at the Baltimore Museum of Art.

The winners were:

Best of Show ($2,000): Unmarid Eitharong.

First place ($1,000): Robyn Hillary.

Second place ($600): Bill Renc.

Third place and ($400): Jan Wunsch.

Twenty-four awards of merit ($250) went to: Brooke Allison, Margo Annis, Leigh Bohne, Lin Carte, Scott Coulter, Mary Day, Yvette Galliher, Denis Gaston, Susan Rollins-Gehring, Peter R. Gerbert, Jason Lachtara, Vic Lehner, Tim Ludwig, Marius Moore, Melissa Miller Nece, Bill Sargent, Ric Savid, Sharon Scalise, Stephen Schatz, Steven Schramek, Kelly P. Thomsen, Chuck Vosburgh, Judi Wood and Glenn Woods.

The show was a partnership between the Professional Association of Visual Artists and the city of Clearwater.
