HUDSON - Ridgewood's Colter Revak started his day in Gainesville on Friday, earning a medal with a sixth-place finish in the discus in the state track championships. Three hours later, he was in the Rams dugout, changing into his baseball uniform during the first inning of Ridgewood's 10-0 win in the Class 4A District 10 championship.
"I love this baseball team, I love Coach (Larry) Beets, and I'd do anything to help these guys," said Revak, who entered to cheers as a pinch-hitter in the seventh and grounded out to second base.
Beets said Revak's attitude is a consistent lift to his team, though he plays sparingly. While backing up the bullpen catcher, Revak could be heard prodding his teammates in the dugout to be more vocal.
"He's back there yelling, "I can't hear you guys and I'm right here," Beets said. "He might be a tall, lanky thing, but you don't want to mess with him."
Revak had to wait until after 5 p.m. to get his medal but said he never drove faster than 90 mph down Interstate 75 to get to the district championship.
He isn't the first Pasco County athlete to pull off the same-day double-duty. In October, Hudson's Amanda Kuerner competed in the state swimming championships in Sebastian and drove across the state to play that night with the Cobras volleyball team in its district championship, which it won against Wesley Chapel.
