HOLIDAY - An 87-year-old Holiday man was killed while trying to cross U.S. 19 in his car Friday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Theodore DeGrace was attempting to cross the southbound lane from a private driveway when he was hit by a 1998 Pontiac driven by Terry Sutherland, 23, of New Port Richey, according to an FHP report. Sutherland's car hit a third vehicle, driven by 66-year-old Susan Kent-Chaffee of Holiday. No one was charged.

DeGrace was killed, while Sutherland and Kent-Chaffee were injured and taken to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries was unknown Saturday.

Born in Cape Cod, Mass., DeGrace was a World War II veteran who had worked for Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn. He lived in Tarpon Springs before moving to Holiday last summer, a family member said.
